31.7.09 12:52 - The BBC didn't factor in high school, apparently

The BBC believes most people will have read only 6 of the 100 books here. How do your reading habits stack up?

Instructions: Copy this into your NOTES. Look at the list and put an 'x' after those you have read. Tag other book nerds.

29.7.09 13:53 - Stuff 'bout me 'cause Lou got me on Facebook...

You've been tagged. If you are reading this, please copy all these goofy questions, writing your own response, and tag 25 other victims. Tag me to, so really you just need 24 more people. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you - but not in a creepy stalker kind of way.

To do this, go to “notes” under tabs on your PROFILE page, paste these instructions in the body of the note, type your title as "Getting to know each other!", tag 25 people including me (tagging is done in the right hand corner of the app) then click publish.

1. What time did you get up this morning?
7:54 AM- my clock runs fast.

2. How do you like your steak?
Kindly treated from birth to death. After that, medium rare. Unless you're talking about getting one around the Northeast, where medium rare means "dripping red." In which case I prefer medium well.

3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema?
UP! It was fun. I had a good time talking with Joe.

4. What is your favorite TV show?
Firefly.

5. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
Eh... I guess I'd probably want to live somewhere on the West Coast. The weather's nicer there.

6. What did you have for breakfast?
Mostly Cheerios, with a bit of cinnamon Life on top for flavor. In skim milk. And a strawberry yogurt on the side.

7. What foods do you dislike?
Quite a few veggies, sadly. I also dislike balut on principle. And curry. I really don't do hot stuff that well, I guess.

8. Favorite Place to Eat?
Noodles. Cheap *and* delicious. :D

9. Favorite dressing?
Ehh... I actually don't use dressing on salad anymore. It used to be ranch, though.

10. What kind of vehicle do you drive?
1997 maroon Ford Taurus. Nothing flashy.

11. What are your favorite clothes?
The kind that don't cut off my circulation, preferably with lots of pockets.

12. Where would you visit if you had the chance?
Do I have to pick one? I need to get to Japan at some point. Portland, Oregon as well. Possibly England. Maybe Austin, Texas, also.

13. Cup 1/2 empty or 1/2 full?
Needs refilling, either way. Seriously, I'm not singularly optimistic or pessimistic. I have both, along with some cynicism, idealism, and the particularly stupid brand of optimism that'll hope against all hope.

14. Where would you want to retire?
Meh. Maybe somewhere on the West Coast. Or, if I get good enough with Japanese, Japan would be nice. Or, if Ipvy ever gets around to conquering the world, I'll settle down to rule New Zealand quietly for him.

15. Favorite time of day?
Early morning (if I'm not dead tired) and late afternoon. They both have this amazing golden sunlight I love.

16. Where were you born?
Some hospital in the Twin Cities, Minnesota.

17. What is your favorite sport to watch?
Fencing!

18. Who do you think will not tag you back?
Haven't a clue.

19. Person you expect to tag you back first?
Dunno, don't care, really.

20. Who are you most curious about their responses to this?
I haven't even decided who I'm tagging yet. :P

21. Bird watcher?
Sometimes, but it's not really a hobby so much as an occasional pastime when I'm bored.

22. Are you a morning person or a night person?
Definitely a night person.

23. Do you have any pets?
One red albino cornsnake, who recently stopped starving himself. ^_^

24. Any new and exciting news you'd like to share?
What is this, the gossip panel?

25. What did you want to be when you were little?
It varied. I never really settled on one thing.

26. What is your best childhood memory?
Best? Meh, my memories aren't that organized. I do recall biking to the Northwest Racquet Club fondly. All by myself, a couple miles, and then I could have my run of this big athletic club. They had a pool and weight lifting machines, ping pong tables, racquetball rooms... even an indoor track, unless my memory deceives me. Anyway, I loved the place.

27. Are you a cat or dog person?
Eh. I like animals. Both cats and dogs have their problems and awesomenesses. I'll take either, really.

28. Are you married?
Nope.

29. Always wear your seat belt?
Yep. I don't really feel safe in the car otherwise.

30. Been in a car accident?
Not really, no. Doubt a rear-ending counts, neh?

31. Dirty dishes in the sink when I wake up in the morning?
If there are, they're not mine.

32. Favorite Pizza Toppings?
Pepperoni (which I can't have anymore) with pineapple. Mmm...

33. Favorite Flower?
I like Forget-Me-Nots, but I don't really have a favorite.

34. Favorite ice cream?
Cake Batter, curse you Calvin College. Sooo tasty!

35. Favorite fast food restaurant?
Dun really have one.

36. How many times did you fail your driver's test?
Once. I ran a stop sign that was the most faded piece of crap I'd ever seen. They replaced it within the next month, the bastards.

37. From whom did you get your last email?
Er... I think it was from Twitter, telling me some spambot wanted to follow my nonexistent updates.

38. Which store would you choose to max out your credit card?
No credit card.

39. Do anything spontaneous lately?
Eh, not really.

40. Like your job?
Meh. I volunteer. I just got back from the one I don't really like (the pound). The library's not bad.

41. Broccoli?
Fortified with vitamins and minerals. I don't like it, but I eat it.

42. What was your favorite vacation?
Grandpa and Grandma VA's 50th anniversary got us a week in Cancun. Good times.

43. Last person you went out to dinner with?
Er... Must have been my parents. Sunday dinner thing.

44. What are you listening to right now?
Squeakings of the house, birds outside, and the music in my head.

45. What is your favorite color?
Blue

46. How many tattoos do you have?
Zero.

47. How many are you tagging for this quiz?
Said to do 25, right? So 25.

48. What time did you finish this quiz?
Why is this not the last question? I'm not done yet...

49. Coffee Drinker?
Nope, I likes my tea.

50. What foods do you dislike?
Did I not answer this question back at the beginning? (checks) Yes, I did. Question 7. Bah.

2.5.09 23:57 - 65 Questions You've Probably Never Been Asked

...you know the rules. tag people in this note (including the person who tagged you. Copy & paste then change the answers.

1. First thing you wash in the shower?
That'd be my hair.

2. What color is your favorite hoodie?
Grey, with pink letting that reads "2nd Veenstra."

3. Would you kiss the last person you kissed again?
Yeah, but it might be awkward.

4. Do you plan outfits?
Nope! I just make sure what I grab doesn't clash horribly.

5. How are you feeling RIGHT now?
I have a mild headache and ice cream. I'm anxious and thoughtful and tired and stressed. But nothing major has gone wrong today. So I'm all right. :)

6. Whats the closest thing to you that is red?
Excluding possible TMI answers, there's a nice little bag of candy-coated popcorn I still haven't eaten about a foot away, and some of those are red.

7. Tell me about the last dream you remember having?
Um, the last really cool one has its own entry. The last one I remember is probably me trying to continue the storyline I was reading in the comic PS238, before I got to today's comic.

8. Did you meet anybody new today?
Uh, formally? No. Informally, yeah, there was this nice Asian lady next to us in church. Oh wait, actually, I think I was formally introduced to Kelise's aunt and uncle.

9. What are you craving right now?
human contact, oddly enough.

10. Do you floss?
Yep, it makes my dentist happy.

11. What comes to mind when I say cabbage?
I don't eat it. So not much, other than I'm not eating it.

12. Are you emotional?
I'm like a Vulcan. Only one of those ones that's actually trying to feel emotions. Thankfully, nothing's gone horribly, horribly wrong yet.

13. Have you ever counted to 1,000?
Yes, but I think I skipped numbers.

14. Do you bite into your ice cream or just lick it?
I like it most of the time. Makes it last longer.

15. Do you like your hair?
Yes, but it hates me.

16. Do you like yourself?
Eh, I'm all right. I'm not as awful as I could be.

17. Would you go out to eat with George W. Bush?
...probably, just to see how badly the media screwed up his personality for the public. I don't like him, but I might be able to learn something from him.

18. What are you listening to right now?
Existence in Progress, by Icon of Coil. Kriss introduced me to Icon of Coil awhile ago, and I got into it. This isn't one of my favorite songs, but it's not bad.

19. Are your parents strict?
No, they trust my judgement on most things.

20. Would you go sky diving?
Yeah, but I'd rather go hang gliding. Anything that gets me in the air, though, I'll take.

21. Do you like cottage cheese?
Yeah, s'tasty enough. I had some this morning.

22. Have you ever met a celebrity?
Don't think so. I've been near some famous people, but actually meeting them doesn't usually happen.

23. Do you rent movies often?
Psh, no.

24. Is there anything sparkly in the room you're in?
Um, well... there's a crystal in the window. Some glitter in my box of oddness, for annoying people with. A bottle of sparkly nail polish, for the once a year I feel like painting my nails.

25. How many countries have you visited?
That'd be Canada and Mexico, so two. Aren't I special.

26. Have you made a prank phone call?
Yeah, I think it might have been funny, but we just hung up, didn't actually say anything.

27. Ever been on a train?
Yeah, sometimes we take Amtrak to get places. It's all right.

28. Brown or white eggs?
Brown, the shells are thicker. There's no difference in taste, though. Just depends on the breed of chicken.

29.Do you have a cell-phone?
Yeah, but don't text me on it. I won't get the messege.

30. Do you use chap stick?
I have eternally chapped lips. Yes, I use chapstick.

31. Do you own a gun?
No. I do have a nice little sword collection, though.

32. Can you use chop sticks?
Yeah, but not the way the Asians would prefer they be used. My grip is wrong.

33. Who are you going to be with tonight?
Myself, most likely.

34. Are you too forgiving?
No. I give you a fair chance. Then I give you a second chance if what you did to me didn't completely destroy me. Then it sucks for you. For little things, I'm willing to forgive a lot, but there comes a point at which I just won't rely on you for something.

35. Ever been in love?
Not sure anymore. I would have said yes easily if you asked me a year ago. Define love before you ask me this.

36. What is/are your best friend(s) doing tomorrow?
Going to class, working on homework, and studying for finals.

37. Ever have cream puffs?
Yep, for some reason this Chinese buffet in Pittsburgh had them. Yummy.

38. Last time you cried?
Um, yesterday. Or today, actually. I'm not the happiest person on Earth, I think.

39. What was the last question you asked?
Probably asking my suitemate whether she had her card... she lost it earlier today and we found it.

40. Favorite time of the year?
Spring after it gets warm.

41. Do you have any tattoos?
Nope, can't figure out what I'd get. Haven't seen any good designs I'd want.

42. Are you sarcastic?
I am fluent, thanks.

43. Have you ever seen The Butterfly Effect?
No, but I probably should.

44. Ever walked into a wall?
Yep. I was not paying attention. Probably reading a book.

45. Favorite color?
Blue.

46. Have you ever slapped someone?
Across the face? No.

47. Is your hair curly?
Nope, it's a bit wavy, though.

48. What was the last CD you bought?
Some random ambient music, themed around whalesong.

49. Do looks matter?
Sadly, they do. Personally, I'm so oblivious, I usually don't notice how people look or if they've changed their hair or whatever. I care only about peoples' personality, values, etc.

50. Could you ever forgive a cheater?
Never had to try. Probably, but I wouldn't forget.

51. Is your phone bill sky high?
Nope. I have a prepay phone.

52. Do you like your life right now?
...eh. It could be worse. Which is to say, no, but I like it better than I like some of the situations I've been in.

53. Do you sleep with the TV on
No, waste of electricity and the light would keep me up.

54. Can you handle the truth?
Why do you think I'm a pessimist? I'd rather be right than happy. There are some truths out there that are horrible depressing. Could I handle every truth out there? Probably not. Could I handle most of it? Yeah. Try me.

55. Do you have good vision?
Heh, no, but mine's still correctable with glasses, thankfully.

56. Do you hate or dislike more than 3 people?
...No. I don't. I make a point of not hating people. If I don't like them, I ignore them.

57. How often do you talk on the phone?
As little as possible. I don't like talking on the phone.

58. The last person you held hands with?
Um... Mighta been Kelise. I was helping her get up. If we're talking actual romantic held hands, I think it's been over six months. Probably Avery.

59. What are you wearing?
A dark blue Tshirt and light khaki cargo shorts.

60. What is your favorite animal?
Tough question. I like most animals. My undisputed favorite fish is the sunfish. I'm not sure about animals over all.

61. Where was your default picture taken at?
Default picture? I think it just took my profile picture when I was bored. My computer has a camera.

62. Can you hula hoop?
For about three seconds.

63. Do you have a job?
Not right now. I'm in the market, though.

64. What was the most recent thing you bought?
Probably gas for my car.

65. Have you ever crawled through a window?
Yeah, a few times. In CT it was sometimes my only way to get into the house after school. Boy was that awkward.

2.3.09 19:16 - Catrina's 5 things...

Otakon: We went. We saw. It was awesome. And huge. And expensive. But definitely fun. Erin was there, with her Munchlax plushie. And there was Darth Vader and a Trooper. And a very funny picture. I do believe that is the first and only time I've ever laughed hard enough/hysterically enough to properly merit a "ROFL."

jumping jacks: I have no idea. They're really tiring if you do more than 50 of them, and especially so if you try for 100-150. I did a lot of them in Crew, which is not my fondest memory. I think I did a decent amount of them in karate, as well. Hmm.

mac computers: I own one. I've had several. They're awesome, user-friendly, and basically virus free. And I'm sick to death of defending myself for thinking so, as I've had to do so for years. Also: Mac gamers do exist, despite what the Ctrl-Alt-Del comic says. I game, I use a Mac. So mleh.

singing: Man, what is there NOT to say about singing. I've done it since I was a year old. I sang with perfect pitch to my brother's flutaphone. Flutafone? I forget how it's spelled. Anyway, singing and music are a huge part of my life. I've sung in many, many choirs. I've probably forgotten more songs than most people hear on the radio in a week.

snakes: I own one. He/she/it is awesome. I don't get to have him in college, but he's still mine. He's a red albino cornsnake, about five feet long. It sounds horribly long, but he coils up a lot, and doesn't like being stretched out for measuring. Snakes are not slimy. They are dry and scaly. Also, relatively harmless, especially the cornsnake varieties. No poison whatsoever.

8.12.08 00:45 - Sigh, I'm such an awful person

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In May I ruled Duluth, Minnesota as a cruel and heartless dictator (-700 points). In March I ruled Iran as a kind and benevolent dictator (700 points). In January I put gum in [info]darkangelsblade's hair (-12 points). Last Friday I signed my organ donor card (28 points). In June I gave change to a homeless guy (19 points).

Overall, I've been nice (35 points). For Christmas I deserve a pony!

Sincerely,
Arcblade

Why did the chicken cross the road?

KINDERGARTEN TEACHER: To get to the other side.

PLATO: For the greater good.

ARISTOTLE: It is in the nature of chickens to cross roads.

KARL MARX: It was a historical inevitability.

TIMOTHY LEARY: That's the only trip the establishment would let it take.

SADDAM HUSSEIN: This was an unprovoked act of rebellion, and I was quite justified in dropping 50 tons of nerve gas on it.

CAPTAIN JAMES T. KIRK: To boldly go where no chicken has gone before.

HIPPOCRATES: Because of an excess of phlegm in its pancreas.

ANDERSEN CONSULTING: Deregulation of the chicken's side of the road was threatening its dominant market position. The chicken was faced with significant challenges to create and develop the competencies required for the newly competitive market. Andersen Consulting, in a partnering relationship with the client, helped the chicken by rethinking its physical distribution strategy and implementation processes. Using the Poultry Integration Model (PIM), Andersen helped the chicken use its skills, methodologies, knowledge, capital and experiences to align the chicken's resources, processes and technology in support of its overall strategy within a Program Management framework. Andersen Consulting then convened a diverse cross-spectrum of road analysts and best chickens along with Anderson consultants with deep skills in the transportation industry to engage in a two-day itinerary of meetings in order to leverage their personal knowledge capital, both tacit and explicit, and to enable them to synergize with each other in order to achieve the implicit goals of delivering and successfully architecting and implementing an enterprise-wide value framework across the continuum of poultry cross-median processes. The meeting was held in a park-like setting, enabling and creating an impactful environment which was strategically based, industry-focused, and built upon a consistent, clear, and unified market message and aligned with the chicken's mission, vision, and core values. This was conducive towards the creation of a total business integration solution. Andersen Consulting helped the chicken change to become more successful.

LOUIS FARRAKHAN: The road, you see, represents the black man. The white chicken 'crossed' the black man in order to trample him and keep him down.

MOSES: And God came down from the Heavens, and He said unto the chicken, "Thou shalt cross the road." And the chicken crossed the road without being squashed by a semi, and there was much rejoicing.

MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.: I have a dream that someday, all chickens, black or white, will be free to cross any road they want, whenever they want, and without fear of being squashed by a semi.

MACHIAVELLI: The point is that the chicken crossed the road. The end of crossing the road justifies whatever means it may have used to get there.

JERRY SEINFELD: Does anyone ever think to ask, "What the heck was this chicken doing walking around all over the place, anyway?"

HILLARY CLINTON: The allegation that the chicken crossed the road is the product of a vast, right wing conspiracy.

BILL CLINTON: The chicken did not cross the road. I repeat, it did NOT cross the road... But the public does have the right to know, and I will say that the chicken did go halfway across the road. It did so because it wanted to, and not because I or any member of my administration brought any pressure or influence to bear on the chicken at the time or beforehand.

FREUD: The fact that you are at all concerned that the chicken crossed the road reveals your own deep, underlying sexual insecurity.

DOUGLAS ADAMS: 42.

BILL GATES: Microsoft intends to release Chicken 2000 in the near future. Chicken 2000 will not only cross roads, but lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your checkbook. So forget about buying Novell's CompuHen 98.

OLIVER STONE: The question is not, "Why did the chicken cross the road?" Rather it is, "Who else crossed the road at the same time that we overlooked in our haste to observe the chicken crossing?"

DARWIN: Chickens, over great periods of time, have been naturally selected in such a way that they are now genetically disposed to cross roads.

EINSTEIN: Whether the chicken crossed the road or the road moved beneath the chicken depends upon one's frame of reference.

BUDDHA: Asking this question denies your own chicken nature.

RALPH WALDO EMERSON: The chicken did not cross the road, it transcended it.

ERNEST HEMINGWAY: To die. In the rain.

COLONEL SANDERS: I missed one?

You Should Play the Saxophone

You are charismatic, friendly, and very uninhibited.
You have a lot of personal expression to bring your music.

Improvisational and informal, you can't deal with an instrument that has too many rules or complexities.
You are much more interested in creating unique solos than immersing yourself in music theory.

You have a lot of style, and you definitely are one smooth operator.
And while you may not play perfectly, no one's going to accuse you of being boring.

Your dominant personality characteristic: being very outgoing

Your secondary personality characteristic: your flair for the unique and dramatic

You Scored an A

It's pretty obvious that you don't make basic grammatical errors.
If anything, you're annoyed when people make simple mistakes on their blogs.
As far as people with bad grammar go, you know they're only human.
And it's humanity and its current condition that truly disturb you sometimes.

Heh. The Beets boys came and serenaded us with "You are my Sunshine." It was... ah... unusual. They were wearing only boxers, and the last line of it was "please don't take our boxers away"

We sang a bit back to them, basically a refrain and we promised not to take their boxers away. And for my own amusement, I added "Yet" to the end of it.

I found the wallet of a "Jacob Hoskins" and returned it to the front desk with a bit of nametag, which read "thanks for the serenade. ^_^ "

I'm really tired. I wish they'd given us more time to rest. Being so busy exhausts me. Gotta survive three more days of it too. >_<

You Are 56% Good

You are a fairly good person. You strive to live a moral life whenever possible.
You are usually kind, generous, and loyal. However, you do have a dark side that even you may not see.
When it comes down to ethical decisions, you tend to take the path of least resistance.
So you may end up lying, cheating, or engaging in other bad behavior... because it's just easier to do so.

You are also probably: Conflicted and confused about the current course of your life

Right now you are on track to being: A slightly crooked politician

To be a better person: Break one bad habit - whether it's telling white lies or spending too much money.
How Good Are You?

Darn, I thought I was better than that. I refuse to be a politician, though. Screw every crooked one of them.

My back hurts, hopefully this nice bed will fix that up.
